Don’t Blink: What You Need to Know About the Most Recent California Employment Law Developments
By Bob Levy and Erik Johnson
By the time you finish reading this sentence, there may have already been a change to California employment law. Or at least it might seem that way for employers in the Golden State. Faced with recent cases regarding associational and other discrimination, new state discrimination regulations and new federal guidance regarding retaliation and leaves of absence, California employers must be aware of and comply with many new legal requirements. Bob Levy and Erik Johnson will discuss some of the more significant case decisions, agency determinations and statutes that impact California employers. They will also provide practical insight to assist employers in dealing with these significant legal developments.
Temperature Check: The Latest on Paid Sick Leave and Medical Issues in California
By Phillip Kossy and Annie Macaleer
Team Kossy-Macaleer has returned for another presentation of timely legal discussion. They will be presenting about paid sick leave (California, San Diego, and Los Angeles), including the many recent changes in the law, difficulties that employers face when they operate across multiple jurisdictions, how to properly calculate and pay paid sick leave, and daring hypotheticals about employees using paid sick leave. In addition, Phillip Kossy and Annie Macaleer will be speaking about cutting edge developments relating to other medical issues in the workplace, such as leaves of absence and the interactive process.
Employees Behaving Badly: Managing Employee Misconduct in the Workplace and in Cyberspace
By Wendy Tucker and Lauren Vega
Concerned about whether you can discipline employees for online or off-duty conduct? Curious about whether you can use an employee’s private e-mail accessed on a company computer as a basis for discipline? This valuable presentation will discuss legal and practical solutions for responding to employee misconduct. Wendy Tucker and Lauren Vega will provide guidance on conducting workplace investigations and “rightful” terminations as well as handling employee misconduct occurring in the workplace, on social media or via electronic devices.
Wage and Hour Forecast: Stormy Weather Ahead For California Employers in 2017
2016 brought the usual flurry of wage and hour claims to California employers: meal and rest period violations, unreimbursed business expenses, uncompensated time worked and assorted class action, representative and penalty claims. California employers will face those and other challenges with the new federal exempt salary requirements, municipal and state minimum wage increases and heightened judicial scrutiny of class action waivers in mandatory arbitration agreements. Join Marie Burke Kenny for an insightful presentation on recent wage and hour developments and practical liability prevention strategies.
