Brandon Ball and Michael Hurst co-founded Starch Creative in 2015 as a top-to-bottom creative solution for brands across retail, consumer experience, brand design, and global brand strategy. Over the course of three years, they have experienced substantial growth, expanding to 22 full time employees, with permanent offices in Newport Beach, CA and Portland, OR.
Starch Creative has completed many high-profile projects, such as “The General” by Vans in Williamsburg. (See: https://www.shop-eat-surf-outdoor.com/content/vans-opens-immersive-retail-environment-in-brooklyn). Its clients include Adidas, Vans, The North Face, Mattel, Reef, Fox Sports, Pelican, and Fox Racing.
Now Starch Creative has acquired Huntington Beach-based Greydog Signs & Displays as part of its vertical integration strategy.
“Our ability to service our clients was at the forefront of this decision. While we all love being hands on and part of the fabrication process, the driving force behind the acquisition is to continue to increase quality control, speed to market, and client costing, while also continuing to diversify our service offerings,” Ball stated.
“By acquiring Greydog, Starch now has a world class fabrication studio that will provide us a playground to test and explore new ideas, materials and fabrication techniques,” added Michael Hurst.
As part of the acquisition, Starch Creative’s Director of Accounts, Bryce Walder, will be relocating to Purpose. as the head of operations.
Greydog has been an integral player in the action sports manufacturing business for 15 years. It offers wood, metal, and print manufacturing. They have worked with clients such as: Vans, Volcom, Quiksilver, Stance, Hurley, Fox Racing, RVCA, and Travis Matthew.
