Surfing Heritage and Culture Center (SHACC) announced that it is among the 415 non-profit organizations participating in the “iheartOC” fundraising drive organized by the Orange County Community Foundation (OCCF).
According to the OCCF, the goal of i❤oc Giving Day is to inspire local communities to come together with extra-mile giving in support of the exemplary work of local nonprofits. In 2015, more than $1.8 million was raised for 347 participating non-profits. In 2016, OCCF aims to exceed last year’s results, and will once again provide a bonus fund and prizes to grow the impact of donations made on Giving Day.
“We’re very excited to be a part of the second annual iheartOC fundraising event,” said Dick Metz, founder of the Surfing Heritage & Culture Center. “It’s a great opportunity to raise awareness about the world’s best surfing museum located in the heart of Orange County, and the positive things SHACC is doing to make a difference in our local and global communities.”
“SHACC is much more than a great surf museum,” said Barry Haun, the museum’s curator and creative director. “Many of our exhibits, auctions and special events help raise awareness and funds to support a variety of health, environmental, educational and other community causes.”
According to Haun, “SHACC has collaborated with the Orange County chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation on two successful fundraising events; we teamed up with Sustainable Surf to create an exhibit that promoted the use of more eco-friendly materials in surfboard manufacturing; and an upcoming exhibit entitled “From Plastic to Fantastic” will shine light on the growing problem of plastic pollution in our oceans and how forward-thinking surf brands are recycling plastics and hazardous discarded fishing nets to create fashionable, sustainable swimwear and outerwear. “
Save the date, and make plans to “give where your heart lives.”
From 6 am on April 27 to 12 noon on April 28, the Orange County Community Foundation will be encouraging local businesses and residents to “give where your heart lives” to support Orange County based non-profit organizations.
