The Fashion & Retail Group raised $625,000 at the

2013 Spirit of Life Award dinner. More than

400 apparel and fashion industry executives attended

the dinner on November 8, 2013, to honor

Frank Kaufman of Moss Adams and

Kevin Sullivan of Wells Fargo for their efforts

on behalf of the nationally recognized research and treatment institution.

Held at The Grove of Anaheim, theBlack & Blues Ball themed event gave guests the opportunity to get into the spirit of the event by purchasing a Hudson Jeans bow tie.  The silent auction – featuring items such as a Flow snowboard, dinner with LA Kings legend Luc Robitaille, and a guitar autographed by Tom Petty – raised over $30,000 on event night alone.  Live musical entertainment included blues musician Brother Yusef and five-time Grammy Award winner Robert Cray and The Robert Cray Band.

This year marks the centennial anniversary of City of Hope, launched by a small group of merchants from the L.A. garment district who led a fund-raising drive to purchase a 10-acre plot in Duarte, Calif.  There, they erected a pair of canvas tents to treat people in need of treatment for tuberculosis, then one of the nation’s deadliest diseases.  Today, thanks to those founders and the continued support of volunteers like the Fashion & Retail Group, City of Hope is a world-renowned biomedical research, treatment and education center.
