Anticipation is high on the Fabled North Shore as monster winter surf rolls in. All eyes are on the surf forecast in hopes that the Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie will run this year at Waimea Bay. Surf contest or not, waves are expected to reach more than 40 feet, which makes for a good show.
Two events we know are on include the 2014 Volcom Pipe Pro at Banzai (January 26- February 7) and the Sunset Beach Pro at Sunset Beach (February 8- 12).
Well known surfers as well as the North Shore’s own powerhouse John John Florence will face off in the Volcom Pipe Pro at the legendary Banzai Pipeline. Here the waves are deadly and a $130,000 prize purse is at stake.
The Sunset Beach Pro has two arenas, of course Sunset Beach and also Turtle Bay! The event transforms our pool area into a surf stadium. Guests (with a mai tai in hand) will be able to watch the world’s best women paddlers battle it out at our popular surf spot Pool Bars. There will also be great Talk Story events at our Surfer, The Bar featuring the Stand Up world’s best athletes. The line-up includes our Turtle Bay Ambassador and Stand Up World Tour Champion Kai Lenny, Stuntman and Hawaiian Waterman Brian Keaulana and Connor Baxter among others.
