On Thursday May, 21st, Shelter Partnership will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Having been associated with Shelter Partnership for a number of years now, I can tell you that this organization does a tremendous amount to assist those in need throughout the country, providing product and monetary donations to more than 200 homeless organizations throughout the country.
I’ve had the opportunity to spend some time with this year’s honoree, Officer Deon Joseph, and can tell you that he is someone who makes a dramatic difference in the lives of the homeless who all too frequently populate the downtown area of Los Angeles. You’ll know what I mean if you watch the video clip below. If you’ve ever had the opportunity to drive through downtown L.A. in the early morning hours, I’m sure that you’ve had the same thoughts that I have, which is to say that it’s hard to believe that this level of homelessness still exists in our country. Day in and day out, Officer Joseph works the area in an effort to improve the lives of the unfortunate people who have to call the street their home. I cannot think of a better honoree for this year’s dinner, particularly at a time when the national media focuses so heavily on negative events involving police officers.
