Recognizing an Outstanding Athlete, Environmentalist and Business
Honoring three individuals for their unique and noteworthy contributions to protecting our waves and coastlines, this year’s winners are:
Athlete: Dr. Cliff Kapono
Professional surfer, award-winning filmmaker and scientist. Cliff will soon obtain a PhD in chemistry at UCSD, is exploring surfers’ molecular composition in “The Surfer Biome Project” and promoting sustainable surfboards through “Pro-Test“.
Environmentalist: ‘Aulani Wilhelm
Senior Vice President at Conservation International’s Center for Oceans, and founder of Island Water and Big Ocean. She led the designation of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument and World Heritage site, the largest marine conservation area in the world.
Business: Tom Stewart, Founder of Sunski
As lifetime members of 1% for the Planet, Sunski has donated over $100K to environmental non-profits. Sunski will soon launch its first collection of frames made entirely of recycled plastic developed in-house.
