For most of us, accessing clean, safe water is as simple as grabbing a cup from the cabinet. Yet billions of people – mostly in rural areas like those in SurfAid’s partner communities – still lack this basic service.
According to the most recent stats from the United Nations, one in three people do not have access to safe drinking water and two out of five people do not have a basic hand-washing facility. SurfAid is changing these odds and we need your help.
Monday, March 22 is World Water Day and SurfAid is launching the Clean Water Challenge. Catch 30 waves within 30 days and raise awareness by surfing for SurfAid. Registration is free, but a minimum fundraising goal of $500 is encouraged per surfer.
Build teams, surf, and fundraise together while helping ensure SurfAid partner communities have access to clean water. Earn custom swag and a chance at winning a brand new Firewire surfboard for hitting fundraising targets.
If you need more of an incentive to hit the water, participants have the option to submit photos or video clips in consideration of being crowned a Clean Water Contender. Use your own content or try Surfline Premium for free access to their signature Cam Rewind where you can download your epic session and share it with friends.
Do you have what it takes for the aerial master himself, Josh Kerr to proclaim one of your waves the Best Maneuver, or the master of flow Wingnut to recognize your ride as the Best in Style? Then submit a photo or video clip and tag @SurfAid #SurfAidCleanWaterChallenge. There’s even a category for Groms.
Damien Hobgood, Jen Smith, Rob Machado, Shawn Dollar, and Tyler Fox will be among the judges selecting the winners and announcing your name from SurfAid’s Virtual Podium. One of these legends will even announce your title on SurfAid’s social channels.
