In the wake of the recent oil spill off Orange County, the Huntington Beach City Council will be considering a resolution in support of a permanent ban on new offshore oil, gas drilling and similar exploration activities off our coasts at their meeting on Tuesday, October 19 at 6pm PT. The oil spill disaster off Orange County is the latest example of the damaging impacts of offshore oil drilling on our coastal environment and adjacent communities. If passed, Huntington Beach will be the 100th municipality along the West Coast to adopt a resolution opposing new offshore oil drilling.

“Known as Surf City, Huntington Beach needs to be the leader in ocean and beach stewardship,” said KC Fockler, Co-Chair of the Surfrider Foundation Huntington Beach / Seal Beach Chapter. “We cannot hide our heads in the oily-sand any longer. This council needs to pass the no new offshore drilling resolution in order to permanently protect our city’s economic engine.”
