November 24, 2020– Today, the Surfrider Foundation U.S. and Surfrider Foundation Europe announced the launch of the international affiliate, Surfrider Foundation Senegal. Based in the city of Dakar in West Africa, Surfrider Foundation Senegal joins the global Surfrider community of affiliates located in Argentina, Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan and the United States.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Surfrider Foundation Senegal to our extensive network of coastal defenders dedicated to the protection of our world’s ocean, waves and beaches,” said Dr. Chad Nelsen, CEO of  Surfrider Foundation. “We look forward to collaborating with Surfrider Europe and Surfrider Senegal to increase efforts across the globe to reduce plastic pollution, protect clean water, and address the impacts of climate change for future generations.”

“I’m really pleased to see the Surfrider family growing with the creation of a new affiliate in Senegal,” said Florent Marcoux, CEO of Surfrider Foundation Europe. “After some first and quick discussions that I had with the Senegalese team, I can testify to their passion and commitment for protecting the ocean, the coastline and its users. The European team gives them a warm welcome and we are ready to start collaborating. “

Surfrider Senegal is committed to raising awareness through education, bringing together community, and advocating for the preservation of the coastal environment. By collecting marine litter, testing and analyzing water quality and working to defend the coastline, the newly formed Surfrider affiliate will work in tandem with the worldwide Surfrider network to protect the world’s ocean, waves and beaches.

“While Senegal is well known for our great waves, we also have the problem of water pollution and now we’re forming a community to protect our coasts,” said Quentin de Ravignan with Surfrider Foundation Senegal. “We’re excited to be part of the global efforts to reduce ocean pollution and preserve our exceptional natural heritage.”
