According to the team at Wavegarden, the Wavegarden Cove is capable of delivering 1,000+ ocean-like waves per hour. Video has yet to be released although they have promised more details forthcoming within the next few weeks.
If indeed the team at Wavegarden has cracked the code to producing 1,000 plus waves per hour at the quality level seen in the above image, the world of surf parks is in for a serious boost. The primary difference between the loss-leading wave pools of the past and the destination worthy surf pools and man-made surf destinations of the future is the quality of the waves and the high frequency at which they can be delivered.
Considering that this is the best barreling wave we have yet to seen out of Wavegarden, the quality seems to be there. Now the big question is, do they have a solution for mitigating backwash, wave deteriorating currents and chop that producing 1,000+ waves per hour generates? Once videos begin to hit the internet, the world will soon see if the Wavegarden Cove is indeed able to deliver on that promise.
More waves equates to more of the primary commodity surf park operators are selling and that enables the potential for a highly profitable business endeavor as opposed to just another loss leading attraction. Considering the number of new Wavegarden Cove projects proposed over the past few months, the world could be seeing these in commercial operation within the next 12-18 months on a global scale. Projects recently announced include:
URBNSURF Locations in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth
Stay tuned as more details are released over the next few weeks on the Wavegarden Cove. You can be certain we’ll be covering what is currently one of the biggest stories in surf parks and man-made waves!
