Zumiez is commemorating a decade of the free Am Skate Contests with a three-part video series from the Berrics.

Published: June 2, 2016 Press Release

The Zumiez Best Foot Forward Skateboard Contest Series presented by Bones is on the road for the 10th year, and has partnered with the Berrics on a three-part video series to look back on a decade of roaming the country in search of talented amateur skateboarders in their own communities.

Zumiez Best Foot Forward is a free-to-enter touring am contest series that brings brands, athletes and opportunity for exposure to skateboarders in more than 35 cities each summer. It adds a jam format contest to major markets like New York, Chicago and LA, while offering the same experience and the same opportunity to locals in places like Columbus OH, Lincoln NE, and Aiken SC. Zumiez Best Foot Forward has played a role in the career growth of top pros like Jaws Homoki, Ishod Wair, Alec Majerus and Tom Asta. The video series looks back on the tour in three installments:

The Inception

Industry insiders and series founders discuss the tour’s start as an am component of the Zumiez Couch Tour and eventual growth into the largest am contest tour in the country.

The Tour

Top ams Jamie Foy, Paul Hart and Dashawn Jordan talk about life on the road and the winner’s trip– an all expenses paid trip for the ultimate top 3 competitors to visit legendary spots and meet influential leaders from the industry.

Ams are the Future

Emerging ams Tyson Bowerbank, Paul Hart and Jamie Foy discuss the role of am contests in skateboarding today, and the opportunities that skateboarding has opened up for them.

About Bones Bearings

Bones Swiss Skateboard Bearings have the best reputation in the skateboard industry, and have had this honor for the past 34 years because of their performance and quality. Everyone who rides Swiss knows how fast they are, and most also comment on how long they last, typically several times as long as low cost bearings. Skaters who use Bones Swiss do so because they want the very best equipment they can get and they know the difference between ordinary and exceptional. Our team is a who’s who of top skaters and we are proud to be associated with each one of them.

About The Berrics

Things change. Boards change, shoes change, tricks change, skaters change. Change is the manifestation of time, and time has shown us that skateboarding is here for as long as we—as individuals and as a community—create it into existence. Although much of the world is trying to stunt skateboarding’s growth, there are enough rogue individuals out there continuing to make it happen. Whether it be by building ledges at a remote spot just east of downtown LA like Jason Hernandez, constructing mini-ramps in our backyards like Mikey Taylor, or buying buildings and constructing skateparks inside them like ourselves, we continue to grow because our will to skate and our will to survive is just that strong and because the only alternative is to quit and die. But we at the Berrics believe that life was made to live out of, not die out of. There’s nothing special about dying. Anyone can do that. Push the future. — Steve Berra & Eric Koston.
