U.S., Australian retail sales tick up a bit

The latest rounds of retail spending and consumer sentiment reports show slight upticks in the U.S. and Australia. Economists in both nations are wary of interpreting the results as indicating the end of a recession, however.

And generally positive results in Australia are tempered by a yellow flag that the nation's economic stimulus efforts don't seem to be spurring as much consumer spending as hoped.
