Ezekiel and Active Ride Shop present a designer showcase Friday night as part of Style Week Orange County at the Irvine Spectrum Center. The show features a Needle & Thread Competition with FIDM debut designer graduates, a competition similar to Project Runway.
I asked Ezekiel Vice President of Sale Mike Martin some questions about the show, the competition, what’s selling for fall and the tough juniors market.

Tell me about the design competition Ezekiel created.
Six designers have been selected to create several exclusive pieces for Ezekiel Girl. The winning designer will receive a $4,000 scholarship/cash prize and the chance to have their design included in an upcoming Ezekiel Girl collection. The runner-up will receive a $2,000 scholarship/cash prize.
Is this Ezekiel’s first runway show?
This is our first fashion show with a full production supporting it.
What is selling well for fall and what do retailers like for spring?
The Sunbeam sweater
The Sunbeam Sweater was here and gone from our warehouse and is retailing really well. The Sunbeam Sweater is a long sleeve shawl front sweater with an intarsia pattern and front pockets.
Spring 2010 is creating a great buzz. We have a new team of designers and I’m proud to say that the entire range is receiving an amazing response. The dress category is our top picks from buyers.
The juniors market has been tough for the industry. Is Ezekiel seeing an improvement out there?
The buzz at ASR and spring appointments was definitely on the upside. Ezekiel is seeing improvement both in numbers and in mood. We are definitely breathing a sigh of relief.
