Press Release:
San Juan Capistrano, CA (August 4, 2010) – While ASR has acted as the surf industry’s meeting place for nearly 30 years, this August will provide the largest array of surf brands, shapers and events in the show’s history when it returns to San Diego this August 13th-15th. The addition of the Sacred Craft Consumer Surfboard Expo will add over 100 surf hard goods and shapers along with consumers to the mix. Events ranging from surfboard auctions to standup paddle demos will educate and entertain retailers between appointments.
“We’re committed to servicing every aspect of the action sports market for the thousands of retailers who travel from around the world to attend ASR,” says Andy Tompkins, VP of ASR. “The combination of brands and events at ASR, CLASS@ASR and Sacred Craft will offer something for every segment in the surf industry.”
Over 300 brands will be showing surf related soft and hard goods between ASR, Sacred Craft and crossover brands at CLASS@ASR. The iconic brands in surf culture including Quiksilver, Billabong, O’Neill, Volcom and Roxy will line ASR’s main aisle for the three-day event.
Buyers can start day three of ASR, August 15th, off with a standup paddle session at Tidelands Park on Coronado Island near downtown. From 7-11:00AM retailers are invited to demo the latest in stand up paddle technologies before finalizing orders at ASR and Sacred Craft. This unique event allows attendees to experience boards and gear before stocking in retail stores. Shuttles will be departing from the San Diego Convention Center to Tidelands Park throughout the morning.
Billabong’s Art of Shaping returns with the Orange County Edition. Twenty-two of the most iconic shapers working in Orange County will bring custom boards to display at ASR on August 13th and at Sacred Craft on August 14th. The Art of Shaping concludes with an auction on Saturday evening to benefit SIMA’s Humanitarian Fund. Sacred Craft makes its downtown San Diego debut on Saturday and Sunday running concurrently with ASR in the San Diego Convention Center’s award winning Sail Pavilion. Sacred Craft will feature the widest range of surfboard designs ever assembled. The dynamic environment keeps the focus on the many talented craftsmen, manufacturers and designers exhibiting at the expo, while giving consumers an opportunity to attend.
At Sacred Craft, foam will be flying during the Tribute to the Masters Shape-off honoring Australian surfing and shaping legend Simon Anderson. Visitors can bring in vintage surfboards and surf memorabilia for “Antique Roadshow” style appraisals. The Rhythm acoustic stage will feature a stellar lineup of musicians including Alexander and the Robbery, Boo Stubbs, San Diego surfers Cindy Santini, Kevin White, Tim Flood, Troy Page and The Red Fox Tails.
