SAN DIEGO, Calif., March 12th, 2013 – A new surf talk radio show WaXed will make its debut this Saturday, March 16th from 7-8 AM on sports talk radio station ESPN 1700 AM, which is based in San Diego and has a strong signal that sends a clear broadcast to Orange County and Los Angeles.
Hosted by longtime surf journalist Cyrus Saatsaz and former professional surfer Omar Etcheverry, WaXed will feature interviews with the biggest stars in surfing and provide exclusive surf news with a refreshing objective take that doesn’t have the biased censorship found with most surf media outlets.
WaXed will air every Saturday from 7-8 AM PT on ESPN 1700 with podcasts of the entire show available shortly after the conclusion of each broadcast on the show’s official website WaXedradio.com. Saatsaz and Etcheverry, who hosted a nationally syndicated action sports radio show for ten years, will be joined by Executive Producer Natalie Rose, who will provide the week in surfing news. Host Cyrus Saatsaz writes for The Huffington Post, USA Today and is the author of the book Dogwild & Board: Stories, Interviews and Musings from a Surf Journalist. Saatsaz has published a wide array of stories and features in books, magazines and websites including the San Francisco Chronicle and AOL.com. Saatsaz was the webcast commentator for the Maverick’s Surf Contest and is currently a producer and broadcaster with The Mighty 1090 and ESPN 1700 in San Diego. Host Omar Etcheverry is a former professional surfer from Santa Cruz who now works for his old sponsor Oakley. Etcheverry began surfing at age 11 and helped the U.S. Surf Team clinch a World Title in 1996. Etcheverry was a television commentator for the Summer X Games a webcast commentator for the Pipe Masters. You can find him surfing some of the world’s best waves in Santa Cruz. @omaretcheverry
Executive Producer and News Anchor Natalie Rose is a professional body surfer who is sponsored by Viper Fins. Rose has been a field reporter and studio anchor with various San Diego TV stations.
