The Skateboarding Hall of Fame honored several skaters and icons Thursday night in Anaheim with nearly 400 people in the audience enjoying the show.

Icon Awards went to skate company NHS, which is celebrating 40 years in business, Warren Bolster, and to the band Devo.

Devo lead singer Mark Mothersbaugh said skateboarders paid attention to the band before anyone else did.

“We owe you a thanks rather than the other way around,” he said.

Skaters inducted included Wendy Bearer Bull, Woody Woodward, Laura Thornhill Caswell, Tom Sims, Alan “Ollie” Gelfand, Rodney Mullen, and Christian Hosoi.

Above are a few photos from the evening.

Today, I am interviewing Richard Novak and Bob Denike of NHS on stage at the IASC Skateboarding Summit. I did a pre-interview with them ahead of time, and they are awesome – interesting, inspiring and insightful.

I am looking forward to hearing their stories about how they lasted 40 years in business during boom and bust years for skateboarding, what they’ve learned, and what the future holds.
