The 58t h Annual Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships (ECSC) will be held August 23rd-30th at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. This year’s event will return to the roots of this famed event that started almost 60 years ago. As of this year, the Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships will tie for the longest consecutively running surfing contest in the world.
Produced by the Virginia Beach Jaycees, CE ECSC is North America’s oldest surfing contest. This year, we expect a multitude of surfers from around the country to compete for their respective titles.
This year has posed some unprecedented hurdles, but with the guidance of their longtime General Manager and owner of Resort Management LLC, George Alcarez, the Jaycees are up for the task. “The health and safety of surfers, spectators, sponsors, and volunteers is our top priority,” said ECSC Chairman Tony Pellino. “We’re not going to cut any corners. It’s finding that right balance of what the local and state and federal government says, and what can we do to make it even safer than the guidance.” There will be handwashing stations on the beach, competitor only areas, sanitation stations for rashguards, controlled entry and exit points, all volunteers and employees will wear masks, and the event itself will be live-streamed. They will take every measure possible to ensure a safe and socially-distanced competition.
The Virginia Beach Jaycees are an all-volunteer leadership development organization for people under the age of 40.
