Herschel Supply Co. partners with California surfwear originator and lifestyle brand Birdwell Beach Britches over a shared love of west coast adventure and quality craftsmanship. The collection is inspired by the first boardshorts ever made—from the durable, water-resistant nylon material to the classic California styling that still looks good today, 60 years after the first Birdies hit the beach.
Built from Birdwell’s proprietary SurfNylTM, a lightweight nylon fabric with water-resistant coating, the collaborative line is made for beach days and road trips, and consists of the Birdwell Herschel HeritageTM backpack, Alexander Zip tote, Long Tote, and Seventeen hip pack. Featuring a laptop sleeve and sunglasses compartment, the Herschel HeritageTM is a classic style that also includes a convenient internal pocket made to store surf wax. The Alexander Zip is a large weekend tote fashioned with a luggage trolley strap and reinforced carrying handles for comfortable carrying with a detachable nylon and clear PVC internal pocket. Featuring the iconic Birdwell “Birdie” logo, this everyday style includes a convenient internal pocket for storing your surf wax and long carrying handles. Functional design details on the versatile Seventeen include a waterproof-zippered front pocket and adjustable clip-fastened strap, allowing it to be worn over the waist or the shoulder.
Available in navy with red accents, a dual white stripe screen print, Prusik cord pulls, and Woodland Camo liner, each piece is finished with an internal Birdwell for Herschel Supply woven label and Herschel Supply’s classic white woven label.
“We’re incredibly excited to work with one of the oldest and well-respected board short companies in the world,” says Jamie Cormack, Managing Director and Co-Founder at Herschel Supply Co. “Our collaborative collection, which includes a variety of bags and apparel pieces, pays homage to the past while looking to the future, incorporating signature Herschel design elements and celebrating our shared passions for quality craftmanship and the water.”
The collection is rounded out by a curated selection of apparel pieces including a Birdwell Hat, Navy and Heather Grey short and long sleeve tees featuring the Birdwell “Birdie” logo, Newport Jacket, 807 Colorblock Board Short, and 311 Board Short. Constructed from SurfNylTM, the Newport Jacket is designed with a Sport-Tek® mesh sleeve liner, two-tone Prusik cord pull, button cuff closure, and two front pockets. The 807 Color Block Board Short is built with SurfStretch fabric, while the 311 Board Short is made of SurfNylTM. Shared design elements include an adjustable waistline drawcord, hidden button fly closure, rear pocket with button closure, Woodland Camo liner, and Birdwell for Herschel Supply woven label. Both board shorts, the Newport Jacket, and Birdwell Hat are finished with an exclusive Birdwell for Herschel Supply woven patch and Woodland Camo liner.
“It’s an honor to collaborate with Herschel, a company with a global reach that puts quality and classic styling at the forefront of everything they do,” says Rajesh Duggal, President of Birdwell. “Both of our brands take a pragmatic approach to design, providing our customers with purpose-built products that are timeless and last generations.”
