The Canadian surfer, mariner, and environmental advocate is equal parts committed surfer and coastal steward.
Published: June 23, 2025 Press Release

Finisterre is proud to welcome Canadian surfer, mariner, and environmental advocate Andy Jones to the global Ambassador Team. Based on T’Sou-ke territory on Vancouver Island, Andy represents the raw, resilient spirit of cold-water surf — equal parts committed surfer and coastal steward.

Andy brings a deep connection to the sea, shaped by years spent guiding remote marine expeditions, studying ecological restoration, and now working in coastal spill response across the southern coast of Vancouver Island. Once solely focused on chasing winter swell, his time in the water has fostered a clear-eyed understanding of the human impacts along Canada’s post-colonial coastline. “There’s more to surfing than trying to shred like John John — especially up here,” Jones says. “Canadian surf culture is evolving, and I’m excited to be part of that shift.”

His surf approach is fluid and inclusive — blending traditional longboarding with high-line twin-fin energy. “Andy represents exactly what Finisterre is all about — deep connection to place, respect for the ocean, and a commitment to doing things the right way. His work in coastal response and his approach to surfing both speak to a broader responsibility we all share. We’re beyond stoked to welcome him to the crew and to support the way he shows up for his community and his coastline,” says Harry Fricker, North America marketing director, Finisterre.

Andy promotes a reciprocal relationship with local ecosystems, communities, and surf lineups alike. Whether he’s spotting wolves from the beach or paddling out into icy reefs, his work — and his surfing — are grounded in respect, exploration, and care. Finisterre is proud to welcome him to the Ambassador Team — someone who not only rides where the land ends, but works to protect it too.
