After a successful introduction in 2024, Porsche announces a second collaboration with California-based Almond Surfboards. This time inspired by the classic 911 Carrera RS 2.7, the limited-edition collection features custom-made surfboards alongside a capsule of California laid-back apparel and accessories. The 6’ swallowtail surfboard comes in three iconic color ways, Grand Prix White with either Blue, Red or Green, shades that are reminiscent of the historic sports car that debuted in 1972 – and only 72 boards will be made.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Almond Surfboards for the second year in a row, this time celebrating one of the most celebrated 911 models of all time,” said Karsten von Engeln, President & CEO, Porsche Design of America, Inc.
“Together with the team at Almond, we’ve created a distinctive, high-performance surfboard that not only will appeal to surfing enthusiasts and Porsche fans, but also design aficionados alike. It looks just as good in the water, as it does on the roof of a Porsche, or on the wall in your home.”
When Porsche first introduced the 911 RS 2.7 in 1972, its high-performance 2.7-liter engine, clean lines and signature ducktail spoiler garnered a global fan base, especially in Southern California, the surf capital of the world. Thus, it was an ideal springboard for Porsche’s second collaboration with Almond Surfboards, following the inaugural surfboard collection last year that celebrated iconic Porsche colors in the 60s. Working closely together on every element of design and craft, Porsche and Almond have created a collection that exemplifies the ethos of “Single Fins & Air Cooled Engines.”
“For this new collection, we chose to shape a 6’ winged swallowtail design that draws inspiration from both the iconic 911 Carrera RS 2.7, renowned for its powerful performance and unique silhouette, and the surfboard designs of the early 1970s — the same era that this 1972 Porsche celebrates, with their blend of classic lines and cutting-edge performance,” said Dave Allee, Founder and Owner of Almond Surfboards.
Handmade in California, the limited-edition surfboard is crafted in the distinctive color palette of the 1972 Carrera RS 2.7 with a base of Grand Prix White and a choice of Blue, Red, or Green. Customers will be able to choose their preferred color as each surfboard is custom-built per order. The board features signature Carrera lettering, the Porsche crest and Almond logo, along with a “72” racing number in honor of the year that this iconic sports car model was introduced. On the underside of the board is the Porsche logo, along with a single fin in the matching colorway, reminiscent of the colored Fuchsfelge wheels.
Each surfboard is crafted in polyurethane foam with basswood stringers and is wrapped in a fiberglass shell with two layers of 6 oz cloth on the deck and one layer on the bottom. Featuring a fuller outline and narrow tail, the Porsche x Almond board delivers effortless paddling and peak performance. The board will retail for $3,000.
In addition to the surfboard, the collaboration includes a limited-edition capsule collection of accessories that perfectly captures the spirit of Southern California surf and Porsche culture. This new collection features a selection of t-shirt styles ($75) and caps ($45) with “Single Fins & Air Cooled Engines” printed on each of them, along with a faded blue sweatshirt ($155) featuring “Single Fin Air Cooled” in hand-stitched felt letters. New this year is a graphic printed beach towel ($75), featuring a cool Carrera RS 2.7 with surfboard sketch, a canvas beach tote ($65), boardshorts ($95) and hand-made surf flags ($115) featuring “Zuffenhausen” lettering, referencing the place of the main Porsche factory, or with a “Weissach” print – the think tank of Porsche, from the first sketch to the finished prototype, vehicles have been developed, tested, and prepared for series production here since 1971. Also included is a sticker set, a woven patch, model car and a California Surf Guide.
Starting at the beginning of July 2025, the surfboards and lifestyle collection will be available at the official Porsche Online Shop (shop.porsche.com), Porsche Design retail stores, select Porsche centers and the Almond Surfboards flagship in Costa Mesa, California.
