Mammut Sports Group AG, the Swiss mountain performance brand founded in 1862, announced that CPE has signed an agreement to acquire the company from Jacobs Capital.
Jacobs Capital acquired Mammut in 2021. Since then, Mammut’s total revenue has expanded at a double-digit compound annual growth rate, with well over 50% of sales now coming from outside Europe, according to the company press release announcing the sale. Operating profit margins have more than doubled over the same period, driven by investment in supply chain, technology, and international expansion, with particularly strong growth in China and Japan.
CPE describes itself as a long term, value-oriented investor that invests in the advanced manufacturing, consumer, healthcare, and infrastructure sectors. The firm said it will support Mammut’s growth acceleration in Asia and North America. CPE said it has a broader history of helping companies expand internationally while supporting global brands in strengthening their presence in China and the wider Asia Pacific region.
Philippe Jacobs, Co-chairman and founder of Jacobs Capital, said in a statement that the firm modernized Mammut “from the inside out,” citing investments in people, technology, systems, product, and brand while preserving the company’s Swiss heritage and technical authenticity.
Heiko Schäfer, CEO of Mammut Sports Group AG, said in a statement that the company is “stronger, financially and operationally, and more globally relevant than ever before,” and expressed confidence that CPE is the right partner for the brand’s next growth phase.
Mark Mao, Managing Director of CPE, said in a statement that the firm is committed to preserving Mammut’s brand equity, technical excellence, and heritage while supporting its continued global expansion.
Mammut’s headquarters, including core innovation, design, and development functions, will remain in Seon/Lenzburg, Switzerland. Schäfer and the existing leadership team will continue to lead the company.
Mammut operates in around 55 countries and employs approximately 900 people.
