Atomic announced Monday that President Wolfgang Mayrhofer will retire at the end of 2026, concluding a career of more than four decades with the Austrian ski brand.
Michael Absmaier, currently Atomic’s CFO and VP Business Development, will succeed him as President effective Jan. 1, 2027. Anssi Lampinen will become CFO on the same date.
Mayrhofer will continue to advise parent company Amer Sports following the transition.
“Wolfgang has been a truly appreciated and respected leader, and a valued colleague,” Amer Sports President and CEO James Zheng said in a statement.
Mayrhofer’s Four Decades at Atomic
Mayrhofer held leadership roles across Atomic and Amer Sports before becoming Atomic’s President in 2007. Over the past decade, the brand more than doubled its business under his leadership, according to the company.
Atomic, founded in 1955 and based in Altenmarkt, Austria, credits Mayrhofer with helping shape its evolution from a ski company into a winter sports brand that brings skis, boots, bindings, helmets, goggles and equipment together under one name.
“Atomic and skiing have shaped almost my entire working life,” Mayrhofer said in a statement. “To spend more than four decades in a sport I love, with a brand I deeply believe in, has been a privilege.”
“What makes me most proud is not one moment or result, but what we have built together over many years: the products, the athletes, the racing success, the relationships and the strength of Atomic as a brand today,” the retiring President said.
Absmaier’s Path to President
Absmaier brings more than 20 years of experience within Amer Sports, including senior leadership positions across its winter sports businesses. As CFO and VP Business Development, he has played a central role in Atomic’s strategic and financial direction for more than a decade.
He has also served as acting CEO of Armada, another Amer Sports brand, helping guide it through a period of strong growth.
A lifelong skier, Absmaier says his earliest memories are of days on snow in the Pongau valley, home to Atomic’s Altenmarkt headquarters.
“Over four decades, Wolfgang has built a strong foundation for Atomic,” Absmaier said in a statement. “I am proud to take on this role and excited about what we can build next, together with our team, our athletes and our partners.”
Lampinen Named CFO
Lampinen joins Atomic after almost 20 years with Amer Sports in senior roles at both the group and brand level, most recently as VP Finance leading Group FP&A and European Finance Controlling.
Atomic’s leadership team is otherwise unchanged.
