Industry customers Zumiez and The Buckle reported sales data for the month of June this week.
Zumiez
Zumiez comps remained in positive territory, rising 2.7%. The company was able to record the gain even though it was up against a positive comparison.
Last year in June, comps rose 5.3%.
In June 2018, transactions rose while dollars per transaction declined.
Men’s was the best performing category, followed by footwear and women’s.
Accessories was the worst performing category during the month, followed by hardgoods.
Quarter to date, Zumiez comps are up 4.7%.
Year to date, comps are up 6.8%.
Zumiez operates 702 stores.
The Buckle
After a positive May, The Buckle’s comps returned to negative territory in June.
In May, comps rose 3.6%. In June, comps fell 1.2%.
Total men’s sales rose 3.5%, while footwear for men’s and women’s combined increased 6%.
Meanwhile, women’s sales dropped 6% and accessories sales for men’s and women’s fell 7.5%.
The men’s business accounted for the majority of sales – 55.5% compared to 52.5% in the previous June.
The number of transactions during the month increased 1%, while the average ticket price fell 1.5%.
Year to date, The Buckle’s comparable sales are down 1.5%.
The company operates 455 stores.
