Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., (APRIL 2012) – The International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) is excited to announce the confirmation of two additional speakers added to the 2012 Skateboarding Summit: Peter Philips, PhD Labor Economist, speaking on the global economic situation and what it means to your business and Brandee Barker, a communications and social media consultant, discussing communications strategy in the age of social media.
The 2012 IASC Skateboarding Summit will be on May 10-11, which will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Orange, Calif. In addition, IASC has decided to extend its Early-bird registration discounts until Friday, April 20th.
The IASC Skateboarding Summit is a two-day event that gives the leaders in skateboarding a chance to come together in a non-competitive atmosphere to educate themselves on topics meant to broaden their perspectives, connect them with their peers, and to inspire and further their business.
Speakers will include Mike Lewis, Editor-in-Chief of Transworld Business, giving the results of the State of Skate Industry Survey; David Ingemie, President of SnowSports Industries America (SIA), discussing the importance of industry research and what it can do for your business; Oliver Percovich, Executive Director of Skateistan talking with Tiffany Montgomery from shop-eat-surf-outdoor.com about creating hope through skateboarding in Afghanistan; and Chad Mihalick, Founder of Malayke.com on how to hire people smarter than you.
Other session topics include global branding challenges and solutions and e-commerce trends.
This year’s summit will host three special events: The Skateboarding Hall of Fame and Icon Awards, as well as special screenings of the new Bones Brigade Documentary by Stacy Peralta and the new Danny Way documentary Waiting for Lightning by Jacob Rosenberg.
The Skateboarding Hall of Fame and Icon Awards will be held on the evening of May 10, honoring the skateboarders, industry pioneers and cultural icons who have left a permanent imprint on the history of skateboarding and our culture.
The 2012 inductees are Danny Bearer, Jay Adams, Mark Gonzales, Peggy Oki, John Humphrey, Frank Nasworthy, Glen E. Friedman and Black Flag. The night will include a VIP meet and greet dinner, an awards ceremony and a live auction. All proceeds will benefit the Skateboarding Hall of Fame and the Go Skateboarding Foundation’s Just One Board initiative.
Waiting for Lightning will screen after the opening reception on Wednesday, May 9th at 7:00 pm. Bones Brigade: An Autobiography will screen after our closing keynote at 7:30 pm on Friday, May 11th. Plan to stick around after the Summit and catch the Pro-Tec Pool Party Contest at the Vans Skatepark right next door to the hotel on Saturday, May 12. Summit attendees will have the opportunity to reserve VIP seating at the always sold-out event.
The fifth annual IASC Skateboarding Summit wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of its sponsors: Van’s, Powell-Peralta, Tec Color Craft, Sk8ology, Transworld Business and shop-eat-surf-outdoor.com.
