Burton’s New Movie ‘13’ Debuts to Huge Crowds in New York and Newport Beach
BURLINGTON, VT (September 14, 2012) Last night snowboarders, influencers, media and VIPs came out in fullforce in New York and Newport Beach for the world premiere of Burton’s new movie ‘13’. Winter was definitely in the air at both premieres, which were packed to full capacity with cheering crowds, pro riders and industry heavies.
It was an unforgettable night in NYC, which started at the grand re-opening of the newly remodeled Burton flagship store in SoHo. From the store event, everyone headed to the movie premiere, where more than 1000 guests packed the Angel Orensanz Foundation in the Lower East Side for a full night of all-star entertainment.
Lines stretched around the block, with guests anxious to be a part of the legendary eveningthat included a special burlesque-style fashion show of the Burton 2013 collection, world premiere of Burton’s new movie and an amazing line-up that featured performances by Smoke L.E.S., Roofeeo (TV On The Radio) and Flatbush Zombies with a headline performance by the RZA.
A long list of special guests attended, including Burton pro riders Terje Haakonsen, Mark Sollors, Mikey Rencz and Ethan Deiss. Burton Founder and CEO Jake Burton was also in the house enjoying the packed scene along with his wife and Burton President, Donna Carpenter, and to top it all off, long-time Burton team rider Shaun White made a surprise appearance at the premiere, spending quality time with the Burton crew.

On the West Coast, the California snowboard community also celebrated the premiere in style, gathering at an over-capacity Lido Theatre in Newport Beach, where fans packed the aisles for a chance to see ‘13’. Onsite at the event were Burton pro riders John Jackson, Jeremy Jones, Zak Hale, Danny Davis, Jack Mitrani, Kevin Pearce, and Gabi Viteri.
This weekend, the Burton winter launch keeps charging with 2013 events taking place at over 30 different retailers and choice locations around North America. It all kicks off tomorrow, September 15th, when dozens of participating Burton retailers will throw parties to get the local snowboard community excited for winter.
Plenty of free food, beverages and gift bags will be on tap at participating shops, and many retail events will feature ‘Spin to Win’, a spoof on ‘Wheel of Fortune’ where riders can test their luck with the chance to win the big prize…a golden ticket worth $500 in Burton products.
Also launching on 9/15 is ‘A Contest of an Iconic Year’ where epic prizes include a trip to Vail, a full Burton setup, a season’s pass to a local resort, and more. More contest details will be revealed online and at Burton dealers starting September 15th. On top of all this, the highlight of every retailer launch event will be a FREE premiere of Burton’s newest film 13 – a video of an iconic year.
