Surf Summit 17 got underway Wednesday in Los Cabos, Mexico with a cocktail party, retailer reception and a talk with two members of the band Metallica.
Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo are avid surfers, and shared stories about surfing around the world while on concert tours, how surfing has changed their lives and how they continue to evolve creatively and communicate as a band.
While Surf Summit attendees enjoyed the evening, the contingent from North County San Diego were also worried about the fires burning at home, and about their families that were facing possible evacuation.
The summit continues today with more speakers and roundtable discussions.
