Press release:

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., Aug. 7, 2014 – SURFER Magazine’s 2014 Oakley Surf Shop Challenge hits Ponce Inlet, Fla. either Aug. 11 or 12 for the Southeast Regional qualifier. Originally scheduled to run in April, the event was postponed due to extreme weather conditions, but will run early next week either Monday or Tuesday depending on conditions. The 2014 series is nearly complete with only two events remaining before the seven regional champs take off on an all-expense-paid excursion to Central America for the National Championship.

Four-man teams (two surf shop pros and two shop employees) will be competing for a chance to win the trip, an advertising spread in SURFER Magazine, and the coveted title and bragging rights of best surf shop in the country.

2013 reigning National Champions Sunrise Surf Shop have been the dominant force in the Southeast with an untarnished record of five straight regional victories and two National Championships (2006 and 2013) under its belt. But who will take the title in 2014, is still anyone’s bet.

    Surf Station

    Catalyst Surf Shop

    Nomad

    Aqua East Surf Shop

About Surf Shop Challenge

Originally conceived to provide a fun and competitive format for the hardcore surf shop riders, the SURFER Shop Team Challenge was one of the most popular and exciting Southern California contests of the early 1980s.  Through the years the contest has evolved, growing into seven qualifying regional events around the country and culminating in a national championship abroad. The underlying principles, however, have remained the same. The Oakley Surf Shop Challenge is still about giving back to the shops, the true backbone of the industry and the heart of the sport of surfing. Each year the competition level rises, the stakes become greater and the prizes become bigger.
