Press release:

BURLINGTON, VT (January 22, 2015) The Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships presented by MINI is excited to announce that Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Girl Talk will headline FREE concerts following the Open’s legendary slopestyle and halfpipe finals. Taking place from March 4th-7th in Vail, Colorado, the 33rd annual Burton US Open has a long tradition of hosting free concerts for the massive crowds that come out to witness snowboarding’s longest-running event.

Here’s a quick rundown of what’s in store on the music front at Vail Mountain during this year’s Burton US Open.

It all starts on Wednesday, March 4th with the US Open Kickoff Party, which will feature next generation banjo pickin’ phenom Andy Thorn & Friends. Bluegrass artist Andy Thorn is best known as the banjoist in renowned Boulder-based jam band Leftover Salmon and will hit the stage alongside friends with an energetic acoustic set.

Then, after the US Open slopestyle finals award ceremony on Friday, March 6th, Vermont-based DJ Cre8 will warm up the crowd before headliners Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros take over the stage. Led by frontman Alex Ebert and a revolving family of 10-plus band members, the LA-based Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are known for their joyous, euphoria-inducing live shows at major music festivals including Coachella, Sasquatch and Bonnaroo. Don’t miss the chance to experience this magical band in an intimate alpine atmosphere.

On Saturday, March 7th following the halfpipe finals award ceremony, the night starts off with Moon Hooch, a saxophone and drum-based house music trio with a rock-n-roll approach. Then, Girl Talk promises to deliver a high energy dance party like no other. Gregg Gillis, aka Girl Talk, has found global fame creating masterful mashup hits, which he raucously pilots from behind his laptop. Girl Talk’s penchant for sampling from a diverse array of artists as well as his energetic stage presence makes him a favorite across a huge spectrum of fans.

After Girl Talk wraps things up, the party continues at the US Open Closing Event at Dobson Ice Arena. To close out the Open in style, a heavy lineup of legendary DJs will take over the arena,  including Toronto-based Grandtheft, DJ Maseo (aka Plug 3 of De La Soul) and Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest fame.

All events are free and open to the public. For details on all things US Open, follow the hashtag #BurtonUSOpen and head to www.Burton.com/USO.
