Shop Eat Surf has news of our own to report this evening. We have been acquired by Surf Expo, which is owned by Emerald Expositions, the company that also operates Outdoor Retailer and more than 50 other B2B trade shows.
We are proud of what we have accomplished as a stand-alone, bootstrapped start-up in a rapidly evolving media environment. What started as an experiment 12 years ago has turned into a news service that is read by industry leaders around the world.
When we decided to explore what’s next, our first call was to Roy Turner, the longtime Show Director of Surf Expo and a Senior Vice President of Emerald, because he understands what we do and he understands the industry.
We are thrilled that he and Surf Expo saw the potential to grow Shop Eat Surf and offer our loyal members and readers more content on additional platforms.
“The unbiased daily reporting that Shop Eat Surf provides the action sports industry is essential to a healthy business segment and a perfect complement to the face-to-face opportunities found at our events,” Roy said. “We are excited that together we can provide platforms online and in person that support the communities we serve.”
SES readers expect a lot from us and we plan to deliver even more of what you have been asking for now that we are part of a much larger company that has additional infrastructure and expertise.
We were outsiders when we started reporting on the industry, and we want to thank all the people who have opened up to us over the years, sharing their business ups and downs and welcoming us to industry events.
