Nicole Metzger, a sports executive with over two decades of experience, has taken on the role of chief revenue officer at the World Surf League (WSL). Previously chief sales and partnerships officer for the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), Metzger is known for securing global partnerships and driving transformational revenue growth, the WSL said in a statement.

At the WSL, Metzger will oversee global partnerships, licensing, and business development strategy. She will lead efforts to advance the league’s commercial strategy while spearheading innovation in revenue generation and brand partnerships.
Before joining the LPGA, Metzger held key roles with organizations like the Miami Dolphins, the Charlotte Hornets, and JMI Sports/Clemson University. She co-led the landmark Hard Rock Stadium naming rights deal and secured the Charlotte Hornets’ first-ever jersey patch sponsorship. Additionally, her tenure at the NBA saw her working alongside Commissioner David Stern to support high-profile projects like the Sacramento Kings’ ownership transition.
“Nicole brings significant experience and success in sports partnerships and revenue generation to the WSL,” WSL CEO Ryan Crosby said in a statement. “She is joining us at a pivotal time, as we look to expand our global footprint through our commercial partnerships. Nicole’s extensive background in driving partnerships through innovative approaches will no doubt progress our continued growth and future success.”
Metzger succeeds Cherie Cohen, who served as the WSL’s global chief revenue officer before transitioning to lead revenue efforts at the X Games earlier this year. During her time at the WSL, Cohen was instrumental in diversifying the sponsorship portfolio and forming key partnerships with brands such as Lexus, Neutrogena, and Red Bull.
On her new role, Metzger said in a statement, “Surfing isn’t just a sport; it’s a global lifestyle with a passionate and engaged community. I see tremendous opportunity to create impactful, purpose-driven partnerships that connect brands to this culture in authentic, meaningful ways. I’m honored to help lead the WSL into its next phase of growth and global influence.”
