Birdwell – California’s heritage beach brand – proudly released a summer lifestyle capsule with Los Angeles’ Elwood, drawing inspiration from 90s silhouettes and prints, refreshed by Elwood’s modern sensibility and grounded in Birdwell’s surf heritage.
The limited-edition collection features functional and playful designs produced with a distinctly Southern California flair, refined by both brands’ celebrated fabrications and reverence for local beach culture.
“We tapped back into the 90s for this collaboration, when longer rails and longer inseams ruled the beach,” said Birdwell’s CEO and creative director, Eric Crane. “With renewed interest in fashion from the era, we first pulled the 312 long board short to jump from, and then built a collection of restored classics from there. It’s timeless beachwear for a new generation.”

310 Boardshorts in Almond Blossom: Birdwell’s short-length classic boardshort, built for pure function and utility. Crafted in the Elwood washed baby pink Almond Blossom colorway, and constructed with two layers of Birdwell’s ultra-tough, water-repellent, quick-drying SurfNyl®.
312 Boardshorts in Woodland Camo: A long-length classic boardshort in the Elwood-updated Woodland Camo print made for long days in the water, using Birdwell’s standard post-consumer recycled material.
Zip Hoodie in Vintage White/Brown: A kangaroo-pocket, striped zip French terry hoodie, with a double-lined hood and a relaxed fit that keeps you warm on dawn patrol or after a dip in the Pacific, designed in partnership with Elwood.
Surf Slub Tee in Vintage White: A cropped, vintage wash t-shirt made from soft slub fabric, with a sun-faded SoCal pin-up graphic worthy of a thousand wears.
Baggy Raw Edge Short in Woodland Camo: A long length, roomy fit, elastic waist camo short with a raw edge hem cut below the knee, in Woodland Camo print with a washed baby pink Almond Blossom drawcord. Inspired by the baggy-yet-athletic 90s fit, these shorts are made with 100% organic cotton fleece.
Beach Tote in Natural: An oversized, heavy-waxed, 100% cotton canvas tote that repels water, with Woodland Camo SurfNyl® lining and a Birdwell x Elwood collaboration patch. Durable and beach-ready, it’s a bag designed for endless summer days.
Beach Towel in Natural: A large vintage-washed, white and brown striped beach towel crafted from 100% terry cotton, finished with a Birdwell x Elwood collab fabric label at the corner.
Trademark Cap in Woodland Camo: A custom cut statement snapback hat and future collectible, donning an embroidered Elwood logo on all-over Woodland Camo SurfNyl®.
Straw Hat in Natural: A distressed-finish straw hat with raw edge brim, featuring the Birdwell x Elwood collab patch. Made with 100% natural plant fibers and complete with an elastic headband for comfort under the sun.
“We approached the collaboration by reinterpreting Birdwell’s surf heritage through the Elwood lens — relaxed proportions, washed textures, and a softer, more everyday approach to beachwear,” said Justin Saul, Owner and Creative Director of Elwood Clothing. “As the collection evolved, it became less about making traditional surfwear and more about capturing the feeling of a California summer, something easy, sun-faded, functional, and lived in.”
