Mobile Action Sports Marketplace, +swappow, was selected this week as the winner of the Protect Our Winters (POW) and the Snowsports Industries of America (SIA) Green Shop Comp. The award recognizes the most environmentally sustainable Specialty Retailer in the Snowsports Industry.
As the winner, +swappow will be introduced at the industry’s largest Snowsports Industry Conference in Denver in late January and will attend the POW Climate Change breakfast.
“We are super proud to be recognized by such inspiring and influential organizations as POW and the SIA” said founder and CEO – Joe Dunnigan. “We are also happy to be able to play a role not only in reducing “rideable” solid waste, but in helping to get more kids actively participating in active and healthy lifestyles” he added.
+swappow’s native iPhone app (free on iTunes) was introduced this summer, gives the snowsports community, as well as the surfing and skateboarding communities, a new on demand ability to swap + sell + share quality pre owned equipment, apparel, footwear, accessories with one another, either locally or domestically, in a trusted and focused setting. +swappow users can earn cash or credits by selling or consigning their gear or make friends and feel good by hooking up other riders/skiers by lending or donating old gear. In addition to reducing solid waste and bringing new and recycling options to the industry, +swappow was founded to help get 10 Million more kids active in Action Sports by 2018 through increasing access and affordability to quality pre owned equipment.
The belief, added Dunnigan, is that by using advanced mobile technology, we can help grow the action sports industry by rescuing valuable gear from landfills and giving it a second life in the hands of new participants. +swappow is quickly gaining visibility as a trusted alternative platform for the industry to consign, resell or recycle aging and difficult to move product in a way that gives back to the community. +swappow has worked with a number of leading industry manufacturers, retailers and Not For Profits including Vans, Globe, Tum Yeto, Ski Pro, Industrial Rideshops, Stoked Mentoring, Skate After School, Learn To Ski and Snowboard and the Board Retailers Association, who believe in the mission and want to support it.
+swappow Ambassadors include Louie Vito, Aaron “JAWS” Homoki and Joel Tudor while its partner team includes industry veterans Stacy Dye, Mirko Mangum, Todd Hahn, Marc Frank Montoya and Jeff Baldwin, as well as a number of leading global business leaders and technologists.
An Android version of the App is expected in 2016

The PLUS Foundation’s simple purpose is to collect Action Sports related equipment, apparel, footwear and accessories from consumers, the industry and our community. From there, it then repurposes or resells it in order to get quality equipment to underserved youth populations with the goal of increasing participation in active and healthy activities including snowboarding/skiing, skateboarding and surfing.
