Finisterre Partners with Plant One

Finisterre highlights connection between ocean and forests in new campaign partnership.
Published: June 9, 2026 Press Release

Finisterre announces a new partnership with Plant One, supporting their groundbreaking environmental campaign No Trees No Seas, alongside the launch of a limited capsule t-shirt collection designed to raise awareness of the critical connection between forests and ocean ecosystems.

The partnership brings together science, storytelling, film, and product design to highlight a central message: the health of our seas begins on land. Rooted in emerging ecological research, the No Trees No Seas campaign introduces the concept of the ‘flowscape’ – a single interconnected system linking forests, rivers, estuaries, and the ocean.

“For too long, forests and oceans have been treated as separate systems but in reality, they are part of a single living flowscape where nutrients, water, and life move continuously between land and sea.” Sam Manning, forest ecologist and environmental writer.

Within this system, forests supply rivers with organic matter and nutrients that support marine food chains, while oceans influence climate systems that sustain forests through rainfall and atmospheric cycles. Healthy woodland also reduces erosion, filters pollutants, and protects fragile coastal ecosystems. This nutrient exchange, including the transfer of organic compounds and minerals such as iron – plays a critical role in supporting plankton populations at the base of marine food webs.

The campaign was inspired in part by Sam Manning’s translation of the Japanese text, If The Forest Dies, The Sea Dies, which explores the deep ecological relationship between forests and marine ecosystems. This idea has since evolved into the ‘flowscape’ framework that now underpins the campaign’s scientific and cultural message.

The partnership also highlights Cornwall’s rare fragments of Atlantic temperate rainforest, one of the most endangered woodland ecosystems in Europe. Restoring these landscapes is central to both biodiversity recovery and climate resilience, helping to reduce flooding and storm damage, improve water quality, and strengthen coastal and marine habitats.

Through the partnership, Plant One and No Trees No Seas aim to restore 500 hectares of coastal woodland over the next five years, including the development of upstream “Fish Forests” designed to directly support downstream marine ecosystems. The initiative represents a joined-up approach to land and sea restoration, linking reforestation efforts with marine recovery outcomes, and Finisterre is proud to have pledged a donation each year for the next three years.

To mark World Ocean Day, Finisterre will host special screenings of No Trees No Seas at selected stores across the UK, inviting communities to explore the science and story behind the campaign. Guests are invited to join the movement and attend exclusive in-store screenings and Q&A sessions.

As part of the partnership, Finisterre has also launched a limited capsule collection designed to carry the campaign message beyond the screen and into everyday life. The collection includes the No Trees, No Seas T-shirt, a reminder that the health of our ocean and forests are naturally intertwined.

Shining a light on the challenges facing our ocean, the t-shirt is constructed from the same super-soft, regenerative organic cotton as Finisterre’s bestselling Harlyn Tee. Featuring a carbon-brushed finish for a soft hand-feel and a hard-wearing bespoke fit, it is designed as a versatile wardrobe staple – a reliable classic with a story to tell.

“Finisterre is proud to support the Plant One, No Trees No Seas campaign, a grassroots movement grounded in the landscapes, coastlines and communities of Cornwall. We understand the deep connection between healthy oceans and thriving natural ecosystems on land. We believe environmental responsibility starts close to home and this campaign reflects the kind of local, community-led environmental action that creates meaningful long-term change and future resilience.” Lawrence Stafford, Head of Community.

Finisterre and No Trees No Seas share a belief that environmental challenges cannot be solved in isolation. By connecting forestry, river systems, and ocean health through science, storytelling, and design, the partnership aims to shift public understanding toward a more integrated view of ecological restoration.

“The future of our oceans is written in our forests,” the partnership concludes. “To protect one, we must protect both.”

ABOUT NO TREES NO SEAS

No Trees No Seas is an environmental movement spearheaded by Plant One. It calls for the restoration of Britain’s coastal woodlands as one of the most powerful tools we have to heal our seas. The campaign highlights how trees and seas rely on each other to survive. They are a single living system where forests feed the fish and protect the seas, and fish and seabirds return nutrients to the land. The movement is rooted in hope, and aims to restore 500 hectares of woodlands in Cornwall to prove that this approach can reverse plankton decline, increase fish stocks and restore the health of our oceans across the UK.
