Firewire Surfboards, in collaboration with Kelly Slater’s Slater Designs, is proud to announce the global release of the Mindcraft, a new surfboard engineered for speed, precision, and designed to connect the surfer to their equipment like never before. Available starting today, the Mindcraft marks the latest evolution in performance surfboard design.
Designed by Kelly Slater and Daniel “Tomo” Thomson, the Mindcraft embodies minimalist, function-driven design. Its outline, described by Thomson as “a seamless blend of straightened elliptical curves,” delivers pinpoint control, top-to-bottom speed, and agile turning, making it ideal for small to medium waves ranging from 2’ to just overhead.
“It’s been really rewarding and really challenging to try and come up with board designs that are worthy of the greatest surfer of all time,” said Daniel Thomson. “He’s been the most experimental surfer in the game and he has pushed surfboard design through the eras. Kelly and I have been chasing a minimalist high performance shortboard since we started working together in 2015.”
Built with their patented I-Bolic 2.0 Technology, the Mindcraft combines an EPS foam core with internal I-beams and high-density foam rails to create controlled flex, drive, and responsiveness. Grom sizes (4’6”-5’2”) feature the new G-Flex Technology for additional performance adaptability. Subtle bottom contours, a single-to-double concave, a rolled deck with hidden center volume, low-profile rails, a torpedo nose, and a bumpwing roundtail work together to keep riders centered and fully engaged with each wave.
“I’ve tried it as a thruster. I’ve tried it as a twin plus one, but I really love it the best as a quad,” said Kelly Slater. “I like to surf critically in the pocket, and that’s what a small board does. That extra nose weight turns faster and doesn’t get in the way if you’re throwing the tail out. The board really stays under your feet – you don’t have to move around as much. But Tomo and I have been riding this for a year and a half now, testing it out, and I’m super stoked with this board.”
The Mindcraft’s design prioritizes seamless interaction with the surf, allowing riders to stay in the sweet spot without adjusting foot position, while providing the speed and drive needed to maximize every section of the wave.The Mindcraft will be available in select surf shops and online worldwide, including the USA, EU, UK, and ANZ regions, in limited quantities.
