Vans brings its “Off The Wall” spirit to Paris Fashion Week by reimagining one of its most enduring silhouettes: the Classic Slip-On. In collaboration with global creatives, Vans positions the Slip-On as both a heritage icon and a contemporary platform for creative reinterpretation and self-expression.
Originally introduced in 1979 as Vans Style 98, the Slip-On was designed for skateboarding and quickly embraced by Southern California’s skate and BMX communities. Its simple, laceless design soon transcended function, becoming a symbol of individuality as it evolved into a natural canvas for self-expression. The expansive vamp and signature rubber sidewalls have long served as a blank slate, inviting people of all ages and backgrounds to make it their own. Today, Vans carries that legacy into Paris, inviting a new wave of creatives to reinterpret the silhouette through their own lens.
For Paris Fashion Week, Italian designer Mattias Gollin, deepens his ongoing creative partnership with Vans, shaped through two years of collaborative releases, alongside Italian visual artist Lorenzo Fioravanti, and New York-based designer Vanna Youngstein each reworking the Slip-On into one-of-one creations. Through distinct approaches to craft and customization, ranging from experimental embellishment and artisanal techniques to expressive graphics and nostalgic, culture-driven design, each pair transforms the iconic silhouette into a collectible object that reflects the artist’s unique perspective. Created for Vans’ extended Friends & Family community, these custom Slip-On pairs, part of a broader set created by these talents, are unveiled during Paris Fashion Week.
