Marc Eckō is returning to the company he founded as a member of the board, following NTWRK’s purchase of the media and entertainment business.
Eckō’s appointment, announced Tuesday, also came with a slate of other changes.
Complex said it bought New York-based Idea Generation, with its founder and CEO Noah Callahan-Bever named Complex chief content officer. Callahan-Bever previously served as Complex editor-in-chief and chief content officer between 2005 and 2017.
Moksha Fitzgibbons, a Complex veteran who left the company in 2017 as chief revenue officer, is also returning as president of Complex’s media business.
NTWRK about two weeks ago said it acquired Complex from BuzzFeed in what’s expected to marry and leverage the two business’s capabilities: NETWRK’s livestream shopping and Complex’s media and entertainment reach.
NTWRK bought the business for $108.6 million in an all-cash deal.
Aaron Levant, the founder of Agenda and co-founder of NTWRK, became the new CEO of Complex Networks following the purchase.
NTWRK, which last raised money in 2021 when it closed on a $50 million Series B from Goldman Sachs Asset Management and former Volcom parent Kering, is now a part of the commerce division within Complex, Axios reported Tuesday. Levant told the outlet plans call for the return of Complex’s print magazine and the launch of more original content.
“My journey with Complex began as an admirer of their original magazine in 2002 and it has now come full circle as I step into the leadership role,” Levant said in a statement at the time of the deal’s announcement. “Alongside this impressive team, we will create the definitive global content, commerce, and experiential platform of convergence culture.”
