Today, in recognition of International Women’s Day, the Surfrider Foundation announced that this year’s One Ocean fundraising events theme is ‘Women Making Waves.’ The high-profile bicoastal gatherings will honor Jayma Cardoso, owner of the Surf Lodge in Montauk, New York, and Kim Johnson, co-founder with Jack Johnson of the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation and Johnson Ohana Foundation. Sponsorship opportunities and limited tickets are now available for the July 13 event in Montauk, New York, and the October 5 event in Los Angeles, California.

A successful creator and owner of prominent businesses in New York, Jayma Cardoso has played a major role in rallying the local community to protect the coasts. After launching the celebrity-infused Surf Lodge in Montauk more than ten years ago, Jayma spearheaded upgrades that will bring cleaner water to one of New York’s most significant coastal areas. In addition, Jayma has demonstrated her commitment to ocean protection with initiatives to eliminate single-use plastic in the Montauk business community.
Kim Johnson, with husband Jack, founded the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation to offer environmental education in Hawai’i and the Johnson Ohana Foundation to support environmental, art, and music education worldwide. As Jack’s co-manager, Kim has taken a lead role in advancing environmentally-friendly initiatives for all aspects of Jack touring, and has served as creative lead in the development of fan engagement campaigns through their All At Once social action network. Kim also strives to raise awareness in support of healthy oceans and plastic-free programs. Her impacts have reverberated across the globe as she continues to be a leader of the Surfrider Foundation’s mission to protect the ocean and coasts for this and future generations.
