66°North Launches Nostalgic Kría ‘Deadstock’ Collection

Published: April 1, 2024 Press Release

Icelandic outerwear brand 66°North announces the latest iteration of their heritage inspired Kría  collection, named after the Arctic Tern that nests on the coastline of Iceland. The capsule dates back to the  nineties when it was first introduced and will launch online and in 66°North stores April 1.

Finding their lineage in past season styles, reimagined for today, the Kría line makes use of surplus materials as part of a move to slow down the production of ‘new’, leaning into the intrinsic Icelandic value of  not letting anything go to waste. All except one piece of the seven-piece limited edition capsule are made  from ‘deadstock’ fabrics. 66°North have run their own factories for nearly 100 years, not only making them experts in handicraft and engineering, but also how to utilize cut-offs and leftover fabrics. The use of  deadstock fabrics, along with the creation of pieces that are fundamentally made to last, as well as a repair  service that has existed since the brand’s inception, together form the backbone of 66°North’s approach to  circularity.

“Our Kría collection is a great representation of what we stand for at 66°North. Not only are the products highly technical, it’s also fun and playful, bridging the gap between fashion and function. We use leftover  Polartec fabrics collected in our factory to create infinitely wearable garments of the highest quality and  durability, designed to last for years to come” notes Bjarney Harðardóttir, Head of Brand at 66°North.

This SS24 Kría collection by 66°North combines the building blocks for casual spring wear and festival  season wardrobing. Key pieces include a cropped zip neck fleece jumper and fleece vest, which are both crafted from a Polartec fleece fabrication for super cozy, throw-on warmth. The Kría Jacket is back in a cropped silhouette, which was first introduced within the brand’s SS23 collaboration collection with GANNI.  Taking inspiration from the 66°North’s first outdoor performance jacket, it is made from Polartec’s NeoShell  fabric creating a super breathable and wind and water-resistant jacket and offering up a fold-in hood detail and cord and Velcro adjustments for styling. The matching Kría Pants are a two-in-one design, easily  zippered off into shorts, alongside two coordinating accessories: a water-resistant retro Kría Bucket Hat  and a practical Kría Cross Body Bag. To round off the capsule, the brand has introduced an oversized  classic loose T-shirt made from organic cotton, the only item in the capsule not made from deadstock.

The collection is made up of Kria Fleece Vest ($145/ £115/ 1.000 DKK), Kria Neoshell Cross Body Bag ($95,  £75, 650DKK), Kria Cropped Zipneck ($180, £135, 1.250DKK), Kria Cropped Jacket ($535/ £425/  3.650DKK), Kria Pants ($470/ £395/ 3.500DKK), Kria Box T ($120/ £95/ 800DKK) and Kria Bucket Hat  ($95/ £80/ 700DKK)
